The Mixology Bar Award for Newcomer of the Year 2009 will be bestowed on a bartender who has moved into the spotlight of the bar scene within a short time through outstanding performance and achievements. His knowledge and skills are exemplary for a younger generation of bartenders. This award therefore has the strongest motivational component of all Mixology Bar Awards.
The award for Newcomer of the Year has been awarded twice. In 2007 Mark Heinze (Sonderbar, Dresden) won the award after he had excelled in numerous cocktail competitions. He convinced the jury with his innovative drinks, his personality and his consistency. Last year the award for Newcomer of the Year went to Christian Heiss (Kronenhalle, Zürich) for his achievements in the organization of Liquid Mountain, the alpine event for bar porfessionals. Among the nominees for the Award 2009 is Torben Bornhoeft (Le Lion, Hamburg). He is the first bartender to emerge from the German connoisseur scene.

Helmut Adam ist Herausgeber von Mixology, Magazin für Barkultur, trinkt gerne Negronis, Tequila und den einen oder anderen Gin & Tonic. Bevor er sich zum Bar Manager an der Mixology Bar aufschwang, arbeitete er als Bartender in Zürich, Wien, Berlin und London.
