A taste of America at Berlin’s Bar Convent

Now in its eighth year running, the Bar Convent Berlin trade fair in the booming nightlife Mecca of Berlin has long established itself as a “must” within the bar industry. In its role as official media partner MIXOLOGY provides an overview of this year’s program and line-up.
This October Berlin will once again play host to Europe’s largest bar convention: Bar Convent Berlin. Located in one of the cities’ most diverse districts Kreuzberg, almost 170 exhibitors will present new products at the 118,00 square feet space on October 7th and 8th. This year marks BCB’s 8th anniversary and the 9,000 anticipated visitors can look forward to the convention’s elaborate program which includes tasting sessions, podium discussions and product presentations.
The venue, Station Berlin, has been BCB’s official venue since 2013, and it’s impressive structure used to be home to a train station. Located in the heart of the city the event space is well connected to public transport and also offers sufficient parking space. Many of Berlin’s infamous bars and restaurants are well within range of Station Berlin, offering the visitor the full package.
Guest Country United States
Over the years the trade fair has developed and grown, as has its curriculum. The focus has widened, as today’s exhibitor list not only includes spirit producers but also soft drink and bar equipment manufacturers, as well as craft and other non-standard beer brewers. The Bar Convent team has placed a stronger emphasis on the business aspect of the trade show for 2014.
This year’s guest country is the United States. “Bar USA” will be open to visitors, offering samples of American liquors and craft beers and the opportunity to chat with well-known American bartenders such as Jeffrey Morgenthaler, Joaquin Simo, and Naren Young.

The New BCB Business Hour
The Business Hour is a new addition to the program which allows businesses, gastronomes, and distribution decision makers to get together between the hours of 9 am – 12pm on the second day of the convention. This gives industry professionals the chance to meet exhibitors face-to-face before the hustle and bustle of the trade fair begins.
Six different stage areas are home to 2014’s program highlights which include demo bars, tasting sessions, and cocktail presentations. WSET expert Alex Turner will give visitors a look behind the scenes at the American Rye and Bourbon Taste Forum while Portland, Oregon’s celebrated Clyde Common will present his bar expertise to an audience outside the USA for the first time.
Passionate home brewer and founder of the Berlin Craft Beer community Rory Lawton will join major craft brewers, including Stone Brewing’s Greg Koch, the Brewers Association’s Andreas Fält and Georg Schneider from Schneider Weisse, in a panel on “The State of Brewing in Germany and Abroad”.
Additionally, the Bar Convent stages will host presentations which range from Ester Medina’s vegetables in cocktails to Billy Wagner on vintners’ sparkling wine and every bartender’s ace-up-the-sleeve: tequila. The speakers will meet-&-greet visitors in person afterwards in the Speaker’s Lounge.
