The night produced one renewed double-victory, one newcomer from Germany’s “Wild West”, the awards’ very first title defense and lots of smiling faces all around. The ninth annual MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS congratulates all the winners! Find out who they are and more about the ceremony below!
Like most things that take weeks and even months of careful preparation, following the gala dinner the presentation of the 2016 MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS 2016 seemed to fly by for everyone in attendance.
Once the sumptuous awards dinner is finished and the champagne glasses are filled, you know it’s time: Time for our dynamic duo of Betty Kupsa and Phil Duff to take the stage. Again this year, they guided us all smoothly through the award ceremony with an abundance of charm, humor and professionalism. And now to the winners, the best-of-the-best in the bar scene across the German-speaking territories of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
A night of firsts
In addition to being a night of ecstatic winners, the award ceremony in the ballroom at Berlin’s Grand Hyatt Hotel at Potsdamer Platz also proved to be a night of unprecedented firsts. The double-victory served up both for Germany’s best bar and for the top mixologist was one such first, with the two awards going to one of the top favorites Volker Seibert and his internationally acclaimed bar “Seiberts” in Cologne. Newcomer of the Year Max Bergfried will also return victorious to Cologne, where the 21-year-old now bartends at “Spirits”. At the time of the voting Max was still behind the bar at “Gin & Jagger” in the city of Essen.
The choice of Vienna’s “The Sign Lounge” once again as Austria’s best bar represents the first time we’ve witnessed this title successfully defended at the MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS. For the second year in a row, The Sign Lounge’s owner Kan Zuo has seen off all challengers, demonstrating the consistency in the unrivaled quality customers can expect at his bar.
The final first of the evening came with the debut of the award for the New Bar of the Year, which went to Frankfurt’s “Seven Swans & The Tiny Cup”, run by Sven Riebel.
A long night!
We want to take this opportunity to thank all of the sponsors for the support that makes the MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS possible in the first place. Our thanks also go to the jury, the Advisory Board for the jury and to Betty Kupsa and Phil Duff, who keep the awards ceremony as vibrant and lively as the bar scene it’s dedicated to. Very special thanks also go to the entire Grand Hyatt team for always providing the highest level of service and hospitality to guarantee a perfect evening.
All of the winners of the 2016 MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS are listed below. Our sincerest congratulations go out to them as we look ahead to another long night at the MIXOLOGY MARKET and in Berlin’s bars — only to see each other again a few hours later at the Bar Convent Berlin!
