Beer, Bars & Brewers #12

It’s a short and sweet BBB this week, but informative nonetheless. We’re happy to announced that Brew Berlin will double in size at this year’s Bar Convent Berlin, London’s Bullfinch brewery plans on building an expansion and doubling their output, and Anheuser-Busch and Starbucks have teamed up to produce RTD Teavana Tea. Prost!

It’s an oldie but goodie, this week we’re rereading Liquor.com’s take on the rebirth of shot and a beer, from back in October 2014. Follow this link for your reading pleasure.

Brew Berlin Doubles its Size

We’re very happy to announce that this year’s Brew Berlin will double in size. Ten new exhibitors will be showcasing their beers. Besides numerous German companies we’ll also be welcoming enterprises from Italy, Japan, Portugal, the UK and the US. The latter will be presented as a joint stand under the umbrella of the ‘North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services’ for the first time ever.

New arrivals include the Bitburger Braugruppe group of breweries, the Hamburg Beer Company, and Stone Brewing Berlin. Repeaters include, but aren’t limited to, Pilsner Urquell, Ratsherrn Brauerei, and Crew Republic Brewery.

Bullfinch Brewery Plans Expansion

Bullfinch is trying its hand at crowdfunding. Based in London the brewery was founded by “sound engineer and home brew enthusiast Ryan McLean” in 2013 and has since made the waves by being named as RateBeer’s best new London brewer in 2014. The operation, which consists of a five-barrel brewery with adjoining taproom, is currently run by McLean and his wife.

The Drinks Business reports that McLean plans on doubling his output and thus, needs money to expand. As of June 21st 2016, Bullfinch successfully raised £ 8.445 of the original £ 8.000 target. Congrats! We can’t wait to try the result of this.

Anheuser-Busch and Starbucks Partner to Produce RTD Teavana Tea

Well, well, well, looks like Anheuser-Busch is trying to take over the world (great name for a super villain also). In the latest news, the beverage industry titan has teamed up with another well known beverage name: Starbucks. BrewBound notes that “On Thursday, Starbucks and Anheuser-Busch InBev announced a partnership to manufacture and distribute a ready-to-drink bottled tea under the Starbucks-owned Teavana brand, which Starbucks acquired in 2012 for $ 620 million.

The product is slated to launch in the first half of 2017”. Starbucks will be contributing with their tea expertise, industry-leading retail activation, and consumer engagement capabilities, while Anheuser-Busch “leads production, bottling and distribution to retailers nationwide”. In a call with Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz and Anheuser-Busch CEO Carlos Brito, the two indicated that Anheuser-Busch’s partnership with Starbucks, producing a premium bottled tea, represented the company’s shift towards higher-end craft products.
