Inventory for october 5th, 2014

It’s officially October! Let’s kick of this autumnal inventory with the Warhol Absolut collection, DISARONNO’s Versace collection, a lawsuit against Templeton Rye, the first whisky created democratically, and Death & Co’s book tour.

We have an exciting week ahead of us here at MIXOLOGY. Not only will we be celebrating the 8th Mixology Bar Awards tomorrow, but we’re also hosting the Mixology Bar Market as well as mingling at Bar Convent Berlin from October 7th to 8th. A busy week, filled with lots of news, spirit tastings, and podium discussions. We hope to see some of you there!
1) Absolut’s Warhol Collection

This October sees a special collaboration between the art and the spirit world. Available from October 1st, the illuminating writing on the iconic black bottle seems to glow with art history and allows consumers to own their personal piece of Warhol. The artist eternalized Absolut’s bottle in one of his works in the 1980s, giving the brand its nudge to start collaborations with other creatives.

Modelled after this iconic painting the Andy Warhol Edition bottle is a reproduction of a reproduction, nothing should make Warhol prouder.  Four million bottles will be available internationally, of 60,000 will retail in Austria
2) Disaronno Wears Versace

Italian liqueur Disaronno just announced its special, christmas collaboration with fashion house Versace. Designed Versace’s typically decadent style the bottle is inspired by Versace’s Home collection: kept in light blue with gold embellishments it’s certainly a looker and will surely draw attention to itself in shelves come this October. Sold online and at Soto Berlin the 0,5L bottle retails for 10,99 Euro.

3) Chicago Law Firm Files Suit Against Templeton Rye

A Chicago-based law firm filed a lawsuit against Templeton Rye in late August, claiming that the whisky brand had tricked thousands of consumers into buying what they believed to be small-batch rye whisky, produced in Iowa. The issue gained traction back in July when a Daily Beast article described how numerous “craft” whisky brands buy their products from a Lawrenceburg, Indiana distillery. The lawsuit is built around one particular consumer who bought “over twelve” Templeton Rye bottles, retailing at $35, over the last several years.

4) Democracy’s First Whisky

Glenmorangie recently announced its new single malt: Taghta. As part of the Cask Masters program Glenmorangie fans in over 30 countries helped create the whisky over the past 18 months. Their tasks included helping the Glenmorangie team select the bottling barrel and maturing barrel, as well as the packaging design and visual language.

The unveiling location was also selected with help of the fans, who ultimately decided on Glenmorangie home in the Scottish highlands. As a first of its kind the Taghta single malt is a complex and rich whisky with a soft finish reminiscent of caramel, chocolate, and dates. Available online for 79,- €.
5) Death & Co: Modern Classic Cocktails Book Tour

Authors of The Modern Classic Cocktail David Kaplan, Alex Day, and Nick Fauchald just announced the official launch of their national book tour for their inaugural book. Beginning at the Bowery Hotel on October 7th the tour will stop in ten cities and feature takeovers of top bars by some of the business’ best bartenders.

One week after the NY launch the celebration continues in California at David and Alex’s own Honeycut. Guests attending all events will be able to toast the release of the book, enjoy some cocktails and leave with their own copy of Death & Co: Modern Classic Cocktails. Additional stops will be held in Portland, San Diego, Washington D.C., Boston, Miami, Houston, Austin, Dallas, Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, and Denver.
