Inventory for February 1st, 2015

Welcome back! This week a professor designed artificial alcohol, Jose Cuervo released a limited edition bottle of its tequila, Campari sees a change of personnel, Prometheus Single Malt Whisky launches at Hamburg’s HanseSpirit fair, and Sierra Madre expands its portfolio with Elephant Gin.

This week we don’t have a recipe, nor an event tip. Instead, let us recommend a movie. A Year in Champagne is the second in a series of three 90-minute films. The first (A Year in Burgundy) premiered in 2013 and the third (A Year in Port) is currently in post-production. A Year in Champagne introduces the viewer to the people behind the bubbly and is filled to the brim with the passion that the producers pour into their work every day. Watch the trailer here, and see the whole thing on iTunes in March of this year.

1) Artificial Alcohol and a Sober up Pill

A ‘sober up pill’? Yes please. David Nutt, neuropsychopharmacology professor at London’s Imperial College, has designed just that thing. The Spirits Business writes that the professor has invented two drugs: one which is said to rid users of hangovers and the second, which is meant be taken on the way home and hopefully result in less drunk driving and other alcohol-induced accidents. The first drug mimics the effects of alcohol without the risk of hangover, live toxicity, aggression, and loss of control. And it has no withdrawal symptoms.

2) Jose Cuervo Limited Edition Bottles

We’ve all had tequila induced crazy nights but at least now, they can start of stylish. Jose Cuervo just released their newest limited edition bottles. Decorated in metallic colors the bottle features new artwork which is said to depict ‘the best of Mexican traditions’.

3) Personnel Updates at Campari

Campari just announced that Cesare Vandini will be taking over as Managing Director of the Gruppo Campari Business Unit Northern, Central & Eastern Europe. Previous manager Stefan Jensen is set to switch to Milan, where he’ll be taking on the position of Head of Group Commercial Capabilities. Matthijs Kramer, currently still Manager Director of Campari Switzerland, was named the new Managing Director of Campari Germany. To read more about the individuals head to about drinks.

4) Prometheus Single Malt Whisky Launches in Germany

For the first time in Germany the Glasgow Distillery Co. is presenting its Prometheus Single Malt. CEO Liam Hughes and head distiller Dr. Jack Mayo will be on site for a tasting at the HanseSpirit fair in Hamburg from February 6th to 8th 2015. Visitors can book a session at about-drinks.com.

5) Sierra Madre to distribute Elephant Gin from February 2015

Last week fizzz announced that importer Sierra Madre will be distributing Elephant Gin from February 2015 onwards. Then handmade London Dry is made with 14 carefully chosen botanicals meant to capture the spirit of Africa. The name isn’t just a gimmick either: 15% of every bottle sold is donated to two organisations tasked with protecting Africa’s elephants.

Every bottle is hand labelled and each bach is named after a specific elephant breed. Though instilled with the ‘the spirit of Africa’ the gin is distilled close to Hamburg.
