Inventory for September 11th, 2016

Welcome one, welcome all! This week we take a look at the Hemingway Bar’s newest Martini, Brown-Forman launch its first rye whiskey, Effen(r) Vodka releases three new flavors, and Jim Beam releases its very own “Apple watch”. Cheers!

In Berlin anytime between Berlin 15th and October 3rd, 2016? You’re in luck. The “Wertewochen Lebensmittel” will be taking place for the fourth time this year. You can even still sign up to take part with your own pop up dinner, discussion panel, or exhibition around food culture. More info here.

The World’s Best Martini?

The Ritz Paris recently re-opened its doors after being closed for a while. During its closure, the Hemingway Bar’s head bartender Colin Field kept busy though. Field laments the fact that the Hemingway introduced many things to the industry, but never received its credit (like bar tongs, raspberry vodka, and the continual motion shaker). This time around, he did it right. The head bartender spent “his time innovating, and when the classic bar reopened, it had a new addition, the clean dirty Martini”. Forbes author Larry Olmsted recently tried the Martini and left vowed.

He describes it as follows “The details are secret but the concept is not, and the recipe is flexible – customers can choose their favorite gin (though Field will not disclose what the house pour is if you do not choose). The real breakthrough is an oversized ice cube made of olive juice, set into an otherwise pure dry martini. As promised it begins crystal clear, and gains olive-ness with each passing sip. In one glass you experience the full range of the very essence of the cocktail, which looks cool and tastes great”. At 30,- Euros per drink, the Martini doesn’t come cheap. But, if it really is the world’s best, then surely it’ll be worth it.

Brown-Forman launch First Rye Whiskey

Last week Brown-Forman released its Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Rye: a limited edition, strong premium that they hope will satisfy the growing demand for rye. Stefanie Dürr, Brown-Forman Germany’s marketing manager says that “with its warm, spicy grain notes and hints of mint, cloves, honey, and apple the Woodford Reserve promises to be a special tasting experience for all whiskey lovers”. The whiskey is produced in Kentucky’s oldest, and smallest, distillery.

Effen(r) Vodka releases New Flavor

EffenVodka, just proudly announced three newest additions to its portfolio. They are: “citrusy and zesty Effen Blood Orange Vodka, sweet yet tart Effen Green Apple Vodka, and light and crisp Effen Raspberry Vodka”. Each vodka is made with organic ingredients “100% premium wheat from Northern France, which are then filtered and distilled in Northern Holland”. The marketing department is pushing 50 Cent, a Effen Vodka Brand Partner, for this launch. 50 Cent says the following “Effen stands for ‘smooth’, and these new flavors deliver on that promise”. Well, he should know.

Who Needs Apple when You’ve Got Jim Beam

Apple might have released its newest iPhone this week (hot tip – don’t buy into it, they must be saving the good stuff for next year’s 10th anniversary) but Jim Beam has got you covered in terms of “watch”. The so-called watch doesn’t tell time, won’t remind you to make that pesky dentist appointment, or count your steps. It will however, serve you a refreshing shot of booze. “Critics may ask, ‘What good is a watch that can’t tell time?’” said Fred Noe, Jim Beam’s 7th generation master distiller.

“We actually think we’ve created a watch that helps you make time. Who doesn’t want to make time for friends, family and a refreshing Jim Beam Apple shot or cocktail?” Good sentiment. We agree.
