Preview: the Reykjavik Bar Summit

Bar events are ten-a-penny nowadays, but the Reykjavik Bar Summit, getting underway on Monday 23rd February 2015, is one worth the hype. And MIXOLOGY will be there!

Born back in 2013, the Reykjavik Bar Summit is a young beast and founders Ásgeir Már Björnsson, Henrik Hammer and Urður Anna Björnsdóttir always had a clear vision. To deliver a fun, creative and open event (there is no official branding here!) for bartenders from North America and Europe to mix – both high-quality drinks and with one another.

Their choice of Reykjavik is key here, a highly neutral (and icy!) environment, within which the two continents’ top bartenders can collide. They’ll be taking part in the Main Competition and the Battle of the Continents – the latter being held within the impressive domains of the Reykjavik Art Museum.

Here’s the big question on the lips of cross-continent bar aficionados. Just who’s gonna be there? And lo and behold, it’s a line-up to salivate over. There’s Cane and Table and Victory representing NOLA-hosts New Orleans, Paris’s Candelaria and Attaboy from New York. Londoners will recognise the Worship Street Whistling Shop and Copenhagen-dwellers Gilt, and that’s not it – the guest list is packed with MIXOLOGY favorites.

As for the judges, who’ll be assessing the competition? Getting their judging paddles out in the worlds northernmost capital will be Stanislav Vadrna (Brand Ambassador at Nikka and Founder of the Analog Bartending Institute), Dan Priseman (Managing Director at Bitters & Twisted Ltd. and brand ambassador at Four Roses), actress and comedian Saga Garðarsdóttir and Ólafur Örn Ólafsson, the former President of the Icelandic Sommeliers Association, Founder of Foss distillery and 100% Cocktail enthusiast. Wow! The competition and judging lineup are big on quality. Think we’ve got a hot competition on our hands…

See you in Reykjavik! And if not, don’t miss out on all our MIXOLOGY coverage.
