MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS 2017: THE SHORT LIST NOMINEES

We can finally reveal the highly anticipated short list of nominee candidates for the MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS 2017. We would like to congratulate all the nominees on their outstanding performances up to now. We’ve got our fingers crossed on your behalf for the award ceremony at the gala dinner and anniversary night this coming October 10th, 2016.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS and we intend to celebrate this special occasion to the fullest! Over the last ten years the prizes awarded at this festive bar industry event have become the most important honors in Europe’s German-language speaking territory. The Mixology Bar Awards highlight unique personalities, bars and products from the GSA beverages and spirits industry.

The trophies are waiting for new owners

Up until now the black crystal trophies from the renowned Schott Zwiesel company have only been awarded to bars and bartenders from Germany, Switzerland and Austria, aka GSA. To mark our 10th anniversary, the MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS 2017 are now going pan-European. For the first time MIXOLOGY is looking beyond the GSA borders and will present four awards at the European level. The winners will be selected by a new advisory board and jury based on the previous identical governing bodies that have supervised the German-language region competitions in the past.

Austrian Erich Wassicek, who operates the Halbestadt bar in Vienna, is the chairman of this year’s GSA Jury. Erich and eight other GSA jury members will select the winners of the twelve GSA awards. The winners of the four European awards, “Best European Bar”, “Best New European Bar”, “Best European Mixologist” and “Best European Spirit/Best Bar Product” will be chosen by a 16-member expert jury under the chairmanship of the bar legend Salvatore Calabrese from London. Contestants from France, Great Britain, Italy, Greece, Finland and Slovakia have been nominated for the European Awards, and the winners among them will be taking home the new European trophies.

This year’s gala dinner and awards ceremony is also coming to a new venue. The 2017 event will welcome a domestic and international crowd of luminaries from the bar scene and representatives from the spirits industry in its debut at the Maritim Hotel Berlin, located at Stauffenbergstraße 26.

Tickets for the night of nights are still available!

Tickets for the 2017 version of Europe’s “Bar Oscars” are easy to purchase at Eventbrite. The ticket price includes a champagne reception, a three-course menu with accompanying wines, water, drinks and cocktails served at the bars operated by the award sponsors. In addition, you also receive your own copy of the MIXOLOGY BAR GUIDE No. 6 and of course a goodies bag full of swag! The ceremony will also be live-streamed to the MIXOLOGY MARKET at the Station Berlin site. Gastronomy and spirits industry representatives will create the finest street food market atmosphere there to herald the beginning of the two-day Bar Convent Berlin. This international bar and beverages trade fair officially opens its doors the next morning.

Each of the nominees has earned the right to walk out on stage as a trophy winner before the assembled guests at Berlin’s Maritim Hotel the night of the anniversary celebration on October 10th. Five candidates are nominated to the short list for each category, and the suspense is already mounting to see who will come out on top. We want to sincerely congratulate all of the nominees, and we are looking forward to this unique evening bringing together a variety of personalities from throughout the industry to celebrate our very special anniversary. Now, let us raise the curtain on the nominees to the MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS 2017 short list!
