MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS 2018: The Long List
It’s finally here – the jury is in, and the long list for the MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS 2018 has been decided. It’s a pleasure to see old and new names making an appearance. Congratulations to all the nominees!
Make no mistake: awards season is firmly upon us at MIXOLOGY. It’s already August and that means it’s only a short trip to October 9th and the big MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS gala dinner, the night before Bar Convent Berlin. But there’s still plenty to do before that – as our jury for this year will tell you. While the jury takes a quick breather, let’s have a look at the long list. By the way: Tickets are available from today!
The long list 2018: going beyond London
We all know London is full of world-class bars and bartenders, but sometimes the city’s bright spotlight makes it hard to see the other amazing people and places Europe has to offer. In the long list for the European awards this year, the UK is well-represented of course, but it’s up against a very diverse range of other countries.
The Super League of bartending may be alive and well, but it’s particularly notable that there isn’t a single UK nominee in the Best European Spirit or Bar Product category. With entries from places as wonderfully varied as Germany and Greece, it’s a clear sign that, no matter where Europe’s best bar is, the best ingredients come from across the whole European continent.
The MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS have only included Europe-wide categories since last year, but it was apparent even then that Europe’s bar industry was booming. The MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS long list this year confirms it – there is a wealth of talent scattered behind the bar in cities all over Europe.
More growth in the GSA region
One more thing to be grateful for this year: we’ve never seen such a range of people and cities represented from Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Until last year, the MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS were only open to people, products, and bars from the GSA region. In the beginning, familiar names and big cities appeared a lot, but gradually, that began to change. Now, with the competition in its 11th year, such a diverse set of nominees speaks volumes about the bourgeoning bar culture in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
In particular, the beautiful city of Freiburg on the edge of the Black Forest is represented six times in the GSA categories. Much of the credit for that belongs to Freiburg’s latest bar sensation, One Trick Pony, which has garnered five nominations, including Bar Team of the Year, Mixologist of the Year, and of course New Bar of the Year.
So, without further ado, here are the MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS long list nominees for the 2018. Nominees are presented in alphabetical order.
