The Mixology Bar Award for the "Spirit of the Year" is not only arousing interest among bartenders, but also among the beverage industry. Spirits nominated in this category and that means, in this case, also liqueurs or bitters, have had a strong impact on the cocktail bars of GSA country due to their quality, mixability or their strong heritage.
In the first year of the awards, the French herbal liqueur Green Chartreuse was awarded with the much coveted trophy. This idiosyncratic liquor had been celebrating a brilliant comeback in many cocktail bars in Germany, Austria and Swwitzerland. In the following year 2008 the jury chose Celerey Bitters by The Bitter Truth for Spirit of the Year. Thus they paid tribute to the spectacular success of this young and innovative brand, that had been started by two Munich bartenders only two years before. This year sees a boom in gin nominations. And there’s also three innovative brands from the GSA countries in the line-up.
